What is the Word circle screen?

The Word circle screen displays a central circular image surrounded by up to 16 words.

The Word circle screen provides a fun way for learners to explore the definitions and explanations of words and ideas. Using an image within your Word circle is an effective way to introduce new material, or as a visual way to connect ideas.

When to use the Word circle screen

The Word circle screen is perfect to show items or concepts in more detail that link to a bigger idea. You can use the Word circle screen to:

  • Show brand values

  • Break down strategy into smaller strategic areas

  • Outline team or department functions

  • Explain what role certain technology plays in your business

  • Define related terms.

How to use the Word circle screen

Step 1: To get started, add a new Lesson to your Course, or navigate to an existing one. Click the ‘Add screen’ button in the lesson on the course sidebar menu.

Step 2: Select ‘Word circle’ from the screen select drawer under the ‘Interactive screens’ section.

Step 3: Give your screen a title and click the ‘Add screen’ button to confirm.

Step 4: Build out your Word circle. By default, a single item will be added to the Word circle, labeled ‘Untitled’. You’ll notice that the label in the smaller colored circle is mirrored in the white description circle.

To edit the label, click into the description circle and start typing. To add a description, click into the description field and add your content. Ideally, the content you add won’t take up more space than the visible area of the circle, however, if you do add too much content, the description area will become scrollable.

To add more items, click the ‘Add item’ button from the screen options menu at the bottom of the screen. A new item will appear at the top of the center circle.

To add a central image, click the add image button located in the screen options toolbar at the bottom of the screen. As the image needs to fit inside a circle, it is automatically cropped into a square. You can easily adjust the cropping area using the image cropping tool.

Layout options

There are 2 layout options available that affect the way the outer circles appear around the central circle. These include:

  • Hug items

  • Fill items

The default setting is ‘Hug items’, which displays the outer circles starting from the center-top of the central circle. Additional items are displayed incrementally around the circle.

The ‘Fill items’ option displays the additional items spaced evenly around the circle. See the examples below:

SmartColor™

The Word circle screen uses Coassemble's SmartColor™ feature to automatically pick a different color for each individual slice based on your primary Workspace color. This means your wheel will always look good!

If you don't want colors picked for you, then don't worry, you can choose to make your wheel slices whatever color you like.

Screen switching

The Word circle screen can be switched with the following screen types:

  • Accordion

  • Springy List

  • Wheel

To switch between screen types, click the screen title at the top of the screen editor and select the screen type you want to switch to. Once switched, your content will fit seamlessly into the chosen screen.
