What is the Tap to reveal screen?

As you might expect, the Tap to reveal screen encourages learners to tap or click an element on the screen in order to reveal more information. This element is ideally an image, although it can be text only too.

The Tap to reveal screen offers a number of different layout options that make it one of the most versatile screens in the Coassemble toolkit.

When to use the Tap to reveal screen

The Tap to reveal screen is perfect to show items or concepts in more detail. You can use the screen to:

  • Outline team or department functions

  • Explain key parts of a project

  • Show monthly business analysis with a month on each item

  • Introduce new concepts and processes

  • Highlight categories of information within a topic.

How to use the Tap to reveal screen

Step 1: To get started, add a new Lesson to your Course, or navigate to an existing one. Click the ‘Add screen’ button in the lesson on the course sidebar menu.

Step 2: Select ‘Tap to reveal’ from the screen select drawer under the ‘Interactive screens’ section.

Step 3: Give your screen a title and click the ‘Add screen’ button to confirm.

Step 4: Your new screen will appear with the screen title, an empty description field, and an ‘Untitled’ item element. Add a description to instruct your learners on what to do.

Step 5: Add content to your screen. By default, the content will display in a pop up, but you can change it so that the content slides in from the side, or appears as an overlay. Either way, the process for adding content is fairly similar.

If you are using images for each item (which we recommend), add your image by hovering over the item and clicking the add image icon. There are no specific rules about what size or ratio your image needs to be. Because of this, you don't need to crop your images, simply add an image, and it will fill or fit the image container.

To add content, click an item to bring up the content container. Here you can edit the title, and add a description.

To add a new item, click the ‘Add item’ button from the screen options toolbar at the bottom of the screen.

Screen options

Interactions styles

Pop up

The Pop up interaction displays the content in a pop up container. Use this style if you have a lot of content.

Overlay

The Overlay interaction slides the content up over the image. It should only be used if you have a very small amount of text.

Slide in

The Slide in interaction displays the information on the left or right hand side of the screen. The information container slides in and out as you select a new item on the screen. This screen type suits a moderate amount of content.

Labels

There are various configuration options for the labels on each item. You can:

  • Display labels below the image

  • Display labels in front of the image

  • You can display no labels at all

  • You can choose to only display the labels on hover i.e when a learner moves their cursor over the element.

SmartLayout™

The SmartLayout™ flexible grid system gives you more control over how the screen is presented to your learners.

Adjust the number of columns

The grid system provides up to 6 columns — simply drag a slider to adjust the number of columns in your layout.

Adjust the height of rows

Click and drag between rows to increase the height of all rows to display larger images.

SmartColor™ Scheme

If you are using transparent images, or choose to use no images at all, the SmartColor™ background feature will ensure your screen always looks great. With each item you add, the background will be allocated a different color based on your workspace theme. If you want, you can change the background color for each individual item.

Progress markers

As will all interactive screen types, your learners will never lose track of where they are up to as their progress will be checked off with progress markers. Read the Progress markers article to find out more.
