There is a wide range of settings available for courses in Coassemble that will affect the way your learners interact with the course. Some of these settings can be configured specifically for groups of learners, or even individual learners.

To access Course settings, click the context menu on a course card from the 'Courses' page in your workspace. From the menu revealed, choose the ‘Course settings’ option.

The 'Course settings' drawer is broken down into the following sections:

General settings and information

  • Course info

  • Course prerequisites

  • Course notifications

Course and group settings

  • Completion settings

  • Scheduled reminders

  • Announcements

General settings and information

Course info

The Course info section displays basic information about the course, including the course name, the trainer who created the course and when it was last updated, and the folder it belongs to. From this section, you can edit both the name of the course and the folder it belongs to.

Course prerequisites

Prerequisites are courses that must be completed before starting a particular course. You can add as many prerequisites to a course as you like. To add a course as a prerequisite, simply select it from the 'Select courses' dropdown menu. Once added, it will appear in a list below the selection box. To remove a course, click the remove icon next to the course title.

Read the Course prerequisites article for more information.

Course notifications

Course notifications can be set up globally from the 'Workspace settings' screen. The 'Course notifications' section in the Course setting screen allows you to override the global setting for each course. Course notifications consist of the notifications that get sent to trainers and learners. Course notifications are broken up into two sections:

  1. Trainer notifications

  2. Learner notifications.

Trainer notifications are the notifications that trainers receive when an event occurs in the course. You can choose to have notifications sent to all trainers, or specific types of trainers.

Workspace trainers are any user in your workspace that has the ‘Teach’ permission at the workspace level. This includes users with the Role of Administrator, Manager, or Facilitator. Group trainers refer to those trainers that only have the ‘Teach’ permission on a specific group.

Learner notifications are the notifications that learners receive when they are enrolled into a course, removed from a course, or have an assignment graded.

Read the Setting up Course notifications article for more information.

Course & group settings

The Course & group settings section allows trainers to configure learner access to courses and modules at the group, and learner level. Trainers can also configure scheduled reminders, and send announcements to specific groups of learners.

Completion settings

Completion settings affect all learners taking the course, however, you can override these settings from the group level, and even for specific learners.

Settings that can be configured at the course level are as follows:

  • Timezone — by default it’s set to your current locale

  • Course availability — the from and to dates your course will be available for learners

  • Completion timeframe — the amount of time your learners will have to complete the course

  • Module order — here, you can force learners to complete the modules of the course in order

  • Grading style — determines how grades for assessment items like quizzes and assignments will be displayed to learners

  • Advanced module settings — advanced settings for the modules within the course.

Read the Course and group settings article for detailed information on availability timeframes, completion options, and group overrides.

Scheduled reminders

Scheduled reminders provide trainers with a method for scheduling a reminder that will be sent to a learner via email, and in-app, that a due date for a course or assignment is looming. Scheduled reminders do the work of chasing learners up for you, saving you time to focus on other tasks. Scheduled reminders can only be configured for groups.

Read the article on configuring scheduled reminders for your learners.

Announcements

Announcements allow you to post a simple message using a basic text editor that will display to your learners as an alert on the top of the screen when they are inside the course. Announcements, like scheduled reminders, can only be configured for groups.
