What is the Blank screen?
The Blank screen, as you may expect, is more or less a blank canvas allowing you to populate the screen with pretty much whatever you choose. You can add words, inline images, videos, audio, files, tables, and more.
When should I use the Blank screen?
Coassemble provides a wide range of screens designed for specific interactions and challenges. The Blank screen on the other hand is ideal for:
Displaying content that is heavy on text
Displaying text with inline images
Displaying images, video and/or documents together within one screen.
Considerations
It’s important that you don’t overuse the Blank screen when building your course as a range of different screen types will help to keep your learners engaged. Be wary of overloading your learner by including too many elements within one screen (videos/documents/text); only include the elements that are really pivotal to the key message of the screen. Often, these elements should be separated across multiple screens.
How to use the Blank screen
Step 1: To get started, add a new Lesson to your Course, or navigate to an existing one. Click the 'Add screen' in the lesson on the course sidebar menu.
Step 2: Select 'Blank screen’ from the screen select drawer.
Step 3: Give your screen a title and click the ‘Add screen’ button to confirm.
Step 4: By default, your new screen will display the screen title, and an empty description field.
To start adding content, simply click into the description field to display the rich text editor options at the bottom of the screen.
The rich text editor provides all the standard options you’d expect from a typical word processor, but with extended functionality allowing you to add images, videos, audio, embeddable content, and file linking.
It’s important to note that although the rich text editor allows you to add videos, images, and embeddable content, there are screen types that have been designed specifically to house this type of content. For example, when showcasing a video, the best choice would be the Video screen. To add an image slideshow, use the Slideshow screen. For embedding maps, or surveys, we recommend using the Embed screen.
