Need an audio clip to describe your screen's content to improve accessibility or to better meet the needs of your auditory learners? Want to add a text-based quick tip or comment on the current page? That's where the Instructor's tip comes in handy!
How to Add an Instructor's Tip
To reveal the Instructor's tip option, simply bring your cursor to the bottom furthest right of your current screen. You will notice the "Advanced screen settings" button. Select this to expand the Advanced screen settings panel.
Each Lesson screen's advanced settings panel includes an Instructor's tip option
From here you will be able to add a text-based and/or audio-based commentary:
Text-Based Instructor's Tip
Use the text field to type in a text-based tip. You should recognize Coassemble's typical text formatting options here.
Audio-Based Instructor's Tip
For an audio recording option, simply drag and drop your existing audio file (mp3) into the Drag and drop field or upload the file via the browse files button.
Once the audio file has been added, the track will replace the drag-and-drop field and will display additional options for you:
You will be able to play the audio file for testing
Open up the audio file's settings to download the audio file or the adjust its playback speed (see image below)
Delete the file
And choose whether you would like the file to autoplay when the lesson is opened (checked), or for the learner to have to select play for the file to play (unchecked).
The audio file's settings (as shown in point 2 above) will reveal the download and playback speed options:
Automatically Displaying the Instructor's Tip
Between the text and audio-based options, you will note a checkbox that permits you to choose whether you want the Instructor's tip to display automatically (checked) or not (unchecked).
Learner Experience
Once a learner gets to this particular screen within your course, the Instructor’s tip will be displayed under the screen's title.
If you have left the automatic display unchecked, they will simply see a flashing "i" icon.
The learner will then be able to select this icon to reveal the instructor's tip or hide it once more once they have finished reading or listening to the tip.
Should you have checked the automatically display option, the Instructor's tip will be displayed immediately once that screen is opened and will either play automatically, if you checked the autoplay option, or the learner will have to select the play button.
It is always a good idea to consider all types of learners including those with disabilities and those with a specific learning preference. See our 📖 Web Accessibility article for more information on this important topic!
