When creating courses in Coassemble, there are 3 options you can choose from.
Transform a document
Generate using a prompt
Start from scratch
This article covers the 'Start from scratch' method.
Starting from scratch
To create a microcourse module from scratch, you will first need to have created a course. On your dashboard, you can create a course with the 'New course' button or open an existing course. Once in the course, use the 'Add module' button and select the ‘start from scratch’ option. This will open the microcourse creator.
You might choose to start from scratch if you have a very clear idea as to how you’re going to build out your course, including what elements you need and the information you’d like to include. Starting from scratch means that you are not using our AI assistant to generate or organize course content for you. For example, if you have a policy document or existing training materials that you’d like to include in the builder word-for-word, we suggest starting from scratch; this allows you to have complete control of the text and none of your content will be summarized or omitted from your course.
How do I start from scratch?
1 — Select your build method
When creating a new microcourse module, simply select the 'Start from scratch' option, this will start the flow and take you into the microcourse builder.
2 — Name your course
After clicking the 'Start from scratch' button, you'll be taken to the course builder, landing on the Start screen. On this screen, click the text where it says 'Course title' to give your course a name.
3 — Change your course theme
Before you start adding screens, you might want to select a course theme that best suits your brand. To change the theme, click the 'Design' button on the toolbar at the top of your screen.
4 — Add your first screen
You can now begin the work of building out your course with various screens. To add your first screen, click the 'Add screen' button on the left hand menu.
If you have existing training materials, you may want to copy and paste these straight into our screens. You can also use our screens to storyboard your microcourse, leaving space for video content or other missing pieces as you go through the course development process. It’s totally up to you!
