How do I use the Process screen?

The Process screen is perfect for creating content to explain a new process or procedure.

What is the Process screen?

The Process screen allows you to display a process in small, manageable steps. Using visual aids, such as diagrams or images allows you to supplement instructions and make the process easier to understand.

If the steps involved are designed to teach a practical or hands-on process, the Process screen lets learners observe and review a procedure before trying it themselves.

The Process screen provides a number of layout options that allow you to change the look and feel of the screen to best suit the content you’ve added.

When should you use the Process screen?

You should use the Process screen anytime you need to describe a process in detail. Although the Process was designed specifically for this purpose, it can also be used:

  • Anytime you have a large amount of content that you want to break down into smaller, more manageable parts

  • To display ordered and unordered lists of content with descriptions and supporting images

  • To display content as a linear flowchart to emphasise a hierarchy

  • To break down standard operating procedures

  • To outline stages of a workshop or event

  • To detail steps to be taken for incident reporting.

How do you use the Process screen?

Step 1: To get started, add a new Lesson to your Course, or navigate to an existing one. Click the ‘Add screen’ button in the lesson on the course sidebar menu.

Step 2: Select ‘Process’ from the screen select drawer under the ‘Interactive screens’ section.

Step 3: Give your screen a title and click the ‘Add screen’ button to confirm.

By default, your new screen will display the screen title, an empty description field, and a single slide titled ‘Untitled’ which represents the first step in your process or flow. The layout is set to ‘Steps’ which denotes the navigation style and displays a ‘Step’ subtitle above the slide title.

Step 4: To add content, click into the description field to paste it in, or start typing. To add an image, click the add image button, or drag and drop the image onto the empty image container.

There are no specific rules about what size or ratio your image needs to be. Because of this, you don't need to crop your images, simply add an image, and it will fill or fit the image container.

To provide more control, we've included the ability to position images within the image container. This allows you to focus on a particular part of the image, without having to crop it which will degrade the image quality.

To add additional steps to the Process screen, click the ‘Add slide’ button, or move your cursor to the left, or right-hand side of the slide container to add a new slide before or after the current slide.

Screen options

There are a number of options for configuring the screen style and layout.

Interaction options

The interaction option you choose will vary the way a learner navigates through the slide.

There are two options to choose from; Steps and Flow.

Steps are displayed in a gallery style, where learners navigate through the slides from left to right.

The steps interaction option displays an optional step subtitle that can be changed from the advanced settings menu. For example, instead of saying ‘Step 1’, you could change it to say ‘Page 1’.

The Flow style behaves more like a flowchart, moving through the slides on a random path. There are 3 path styles you can choose from if you use this interaction type; Ladder, Stairs, and Vertical.

Slide sizes

Change the height of your slides depending on how much content you have. There are two options to choose from; small and large.

Layout options

The Process screen features Coassembles’ SmartLayout™ functionality. It uses a flexible grid system that allows you to drag an image or text box to the left or right. The elements you drag will snap to the grid ensuring that the design always looks spot on.

The addition of SmartLayout™ means the Process screen will be able to cater for a large range of variation in your content. You can have the image display to the left, right, or behind the image.
