What is the Document screen?

The document screen allows you to upload common document formats including:

  • Microsoft Word documents (.doc, .docx)

  • PDF (Portable Document Format)

  • Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)

  • PowerPoint presentations (.ppt, .pptx)

  • Text files (.txt)

  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)

Coassemble uses Google’s document viewer to allow documents to be displayed as embedded objects in their original format. This means your learners won’t need to have software installed on their devices to view documents. You can if you choose to force your learners to download documents if required.

Use cases

There are many reasons to use documents in your online learning including:

  • When you don’t have time to convert your presentations into Coassemble screen types.

  • When you have supplemental reference materials that aren’t essential for course completion.

  • When you want to make a course quickly using content you already have.

  • For company policy and procedure documents.

How to use the Document screen

To get started, add a new Lesson to your Course, or navigate to an existing one. Click the 'Add screen' button in the lesson on the course sidebar menu.

Select ‘Document screen’ from the screen select drawer.

Give your screen a title and click the ‘Add screen’ button to confirm.

You’ll notice that your screen title is displayed at the top of the page. You can add an optional description, or leave it blank. To add a document, simply click into the upload container, or drag your file directly onto it.

By default, your document will be embedded on the page, displaying inline for your learners. If you want your learners to download the document, toggle the view option on the options toolbar at the bottom of the page.
