What’s the difference between transforming a document and converting a presentation?

Let's explain the difference between transforming and converting, and when you would use each course creation method.

The key difference lies in how your content is handled:

  • Transform a document: Your content is summarized and reworded to suit a course format. It focuses on readability and learner engagement, rather than preserving your original wording.

  • Convert a presentation: Your content is kept exactly as written. This method is ideal when your presentation has already been reviewed, approved, or is required to stay word-for-word—like in compliance, legal, or technical training.

In short:

  • Use Transform when you want help reworking your content into a course format, and the content is in one of the following file types: PDF, Word (.doc, .docx), PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx), Text (.txt) or Rich Text Format (.rtf).

  • Use Convert when the wording and structure of your content must remain unchanged and the content is in a presentation format (E.g. ppt, .pptx, and .key.

For other formats like Google Slides, you’ll need to export as .pptx first.)

Both methods will get you to a completed course—just with different levels of interpretation and control over the original material.
